MT in Pediatric Oncohematology

The department of pediatric oncology is a very complex reality, full of intense experiences that are strongly influenced by the development of the disease and even more so by the patient’s age.  Apart from the known physiological effects, cancer has extremely devastating consequences on the young patient’s psyche and his surrounding. The various therapeutic approaches not only try to have a curing effect on the patient, but also try to help and comfort the family members, which all of a sudden are confronted with a diagnosis that most definitely has some very negative, both physical and psychological repercussions on their lives and leaves them with a feeling of insecurity.

The music therapist, and his colleagues; face a similar kind of insecurity regarding the evolution of the disease, which may effect their ability to proceed with the therapy, more than it does in other clinical cases.
